how can a contact person or company become a lead

Question

I can create leads and need to add the name and company but I can not select a person already in my database to simply become a lead. I can only create a new lead then if it becomes an opportunity I can attach it to an existing client or contact...
I don't understand why I can not click on a contact and decide to turn it into a lead and later an opportunity
I probably miss something trivial but can't really figure it out

You didn't post the Version or Edition of Odoo you are asking about.
Odoo v10 Enterprise Edition:
*groups="base.group_no_one"* has been added to the *partner_id* field in the form view, so you need to override this or activate Developer Mode:
Then, from Sales --> Leads, when you click CREATE, just fill in the Customer:
