Use Case. 👷

I purchase some products used to manufacture machinery. These products are purchased in units from my vendor, but in my inventory, the products are equivalent to meters. For example:

  • 1 bar is equivalent to 6.10 meters.

My vendor sells me a bar for $150.00, but when I make my purchase in Odoo, the unit price is not respected. As soon as I select the unit of measurement with equivalence, it also converts the value to the unit price (based on my unit of measurement conversion). My current purchases in Odoo look like this:

  • Without selecting the unit of measurement with equivalence:

  • Selecting the unit of measurement with equivalence:

I've tried many things, but I can't seem to get this flow to work. Is there any way I can fix this? 😢

Solution. 💡

The correct way to record the purchase price of a product that uses a unit of measure with an equivalence is as follows:

  1. Configure the unit of measure with the corresponding equivalence:
  • Inventory Module -> Configuration -> Units and Packaging -> New.

  1. Within the product template, you must select the vendor:
  • Inventory Module -> Products -> Products -> Select the product -> "Purchase" tab -> Click "Add a line" -> Select the Vendor.

  1. Change the unit of measurement -> Select the unit of measurement with equivalence that was previously created:

  1. Enter the unit price at which you purchase it from the supplier:

If we have this configuration complete within the product template, when creating a new request for quotation to purchase this product, the unit price value will already appear correctly (and the unit price conversion will no longer be performed):

With this solution, you can now place your purchase orders without any problems! 🚀
