So, I'm using OpenERP 7.0 under the AGPL license. From my understanding of AGPL, it should be possible for me to remove the openerp logo and footer. After all, it is just another source code modification.

Since I'm using OpenErp as a web service for my clients, would changing the branding be any problem ?

I added our logo in "Settings" --> "Companies" --> "Companies" --> our company record, and the only remaining reference to OpenERP is the "Powered by OpenERP" at the bottom of the left menu. Is that what you want? I can't imagine why anyone would want to remove that.

Short answer: Yes, you can remove the link and logo from the web frontend.

Long answer:

As pointed out by Yoni Rabkin, from FSF "Under section 7(b) of AGPLv3 the copyright holder/s of the software is permitted to require, as an additional restriction of the license, that you preserve and not remove a "powered by ..." logo."

By the time being, OpenERP uses the AGPL with no additional restrictions, and so you are not requiered to keep the link and logo.

View current openerp-web license.

Off course, you must offer your customers an effective way to get the full source code, and you must keep the appropiate copyright and warranty notices in it.

Thoughtfully reading the licence is quite tedious but it's higly recommended.

The commercial and social impact of removing the OpenERP brand from the web frontend is another issue I would recommend you to debate through the mailing lists or with the folks at OpenERP directly.

Best regards.

Actually, it's an usual practice to change the logo. Even the stricter v6 webclient license allowed for this.

I guess there is no problem with that, as far as I know. Check for example demos provided by this company: zbeanztech.com

You cannot really "guess" law, and the argument that someone else does it is not really a good one.

Thanks for correct me, but you didn't provide any useful answer. I mean, where is your legal, law based, answer?

Not having the answer is not a good reason for giving a bad answer.

Yes, You right,

Also its such bad mentality from openerp to keeps "powered by" and logo and other things, A lot 'great open source projects and software' are allow to change everything in front end for client, Such wordpress and magento is great examples.

@fhe, many openerp features are clone from other, also you people copied powermail module features and created own modules, also things in google, & you talking about LAW ? Also you putting license which till not clear for any one clearly? your modules which hold framework methods are under it or other files too, or whole world you going to rule ?
