There are occasions when we have a Product in stock that needs to be reworked due to manufacturing issues.

Example: Product 1 is the wrong diameter. We need to put it into our workshop to turn it on a lathe, then return it to stock. We want to record the additional cost of rework labour on the component cost.

Attempt 1:

Initially I thought, we could make an MO to produce "Product 1". On the BOM we would have "Product 1" + Operation "Turn on Lathe". This doesn't work as a product cannot reference itself on a BOM.

Attempt 2:

Then i tried Repair module. I created a repair order, with "Product 1" as product to repair.

The "location" i used was our stock location for this part.

I added parts to the RO, creating a storable product called "Remedial". "Remedial" was created so we can create an MO to create operation "Turn on Lathe" and record time against this operation.

I completed the MO to create the quantity of "remedial" required in stock for the RO. The cost of "remedial" was £1 per unit.

I completed the RO and everything went through correctly, "remedial" was consumed and "Product 1" moved from WH/Stock to WH/Stock

The issue is, no additional cost was added to "Product 1", it remains at the original cost and the £1 per unit from the "remedial" component is not added.

Am I missing something? is there a proper way to deal with remedial work of this kind? are there any suggestions?

regards

Graeme
