Steps I've taken so far.

1. Added the products

2. Marked them Recurring and created a recurring duration and price.

3. Created the Subscription plan that includes the product.

When I go to create a sales order using that product and the recurring duration, I then go to "Confirm".  I get an error that says "Unable to put the subscription in a progress stage". What did I miss?

Thank you so much for this assistance Muhammad, I really appreciate it.  Let's say I have an invoice that doesn't go out until January 22nd.  If I set it up per your instructions today and put the 22nd as the invoice date, will Odoo hold it until the 22nd and then send it?

In Odoo, you can create a recurring invoice using the "Recurring Invoices" feature. Here are the steps you can follow to set up a recurring invoice:

Go to the Sales module, and then click on the "Invoices" menu.

Click on the "Create" button to create a new invoice.

Fill in the customer information and the invoice details as you normally would.

In the "Other Information" section, you will find a "Recurring" field. Here, you can set the invoice to recur on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis.

Set the number of times the invoice should recur.

Click on the "Validate" button to create the recurring invoice.

Once you've set up the recurring invoice, it will automatically create new invoices for the customer at the specified intervals.

You can view, edit and manage the recurring invoices from menu Invoicing -> Recurring Invoices.

You can also set rules for invoice generation, for example, you can set the invoice to be generated on the first of the month, or on the 15th of the month.

Note that you can also set up recurring journal entries using the "Recurring Journal Entries" feature in the Accounting module. This works in a similar way to recurring invoices, but is used for creating recurring entries in your accounting journals

How to get this working on Odoo 15 community edition. I dont see an option of Recurring in Other information. I have installed Subscription management for community https://apps.odoo.com/apps/modules/15.0/subscription_package/

Hi Fred,

If you need to create recurring invoice you have this module from OCA:

https://github.com/OCA/contract/tree/16.0/contract

Hope it helps.

Seems like you're almost there but snagged on that error. The issue you're havin' with the subscription not movin to the progress stage is probly tied to how Odoo handles subscription templates or stages in its module. Yeah, I’ve seen this before when there's a mess-up in the subscription config.

First up, double-check your subscription stages. Hop over to subscriptions -> configuration -> stages. Make sure stages are set up right and that their sequence makes sense. A missing step or some rule like an inactivity time limit for going to the next stage could be the issue here.

Also, have a look at any automated actions or conditions linked with stage changes. They can get set up by mistake and halt the process.

And don't forget to check if the salesperson (often linked with the subscription) has enough rights to modify those subscription stages. If their rights are too tight, it could stop the stage change.

If all else fails and you’re still stuck, try logging a detailed error report. This might show what Odoo finds problematic, maybe some unexpected snag in a custom module or another tricky part of the config.
