A huge failure of the Odoo system is not including fields for Product Length, Width and Height.
More importantly, it does not give the option to calculate shipping costs based on the length of the product, the main metric we use for shipping.
Is there any way to achieve this?

On Odoo have an option to define Volume of product (maybe it's same your requirement LxWxH). You can use this field and calculate Shipping cost on it.
