it means you have a server to buy, maintain and update, it means that external users will have to come down your internet connection (which might be the wrong way if you have a different upstream/downstream speed) which will mean opening ports and configuring firewalls.
There are plenty of benefits to running it locally, but you didn't ask for those :)
