I have two warehouses and for those two warehouses, multiple locations are there. But when i am doing any internal move, child locations get automatically updated with the quantity but parent location is not showing sum of its child locations? I tried to configure it in multiple ways but all my effort are fruitless. Can someone help me to get rid of this problem?

In Odoo, parent locations never store quantities themselves; only child/internal locations hold stock. That’s why internal moves update child locations but not the parent.

If you want the parent to show the sum automatically:

  1. Enable “Show detailed operations” in inventory reporting:

    • Go to Inventory → Configuration → Settings → Show detailed operations.

    • Then check Inventory → Reporting → Inventory Valuation or Stock Analysis; parent locations will display aggregated quantities of all children.

  2. Use the “Virtual Stock” feature:

    • Some modules (or Odoo Studio customization) allow you to create a computed field on the parent location that sums child quantities.

  3. Alternative: Use Stock Analysis / Pivot view

    • Group by Parent Location, and Odoo will sum up all child locations automatically for your reporting needs.

Oh man, that's frustrating! I can defintely feel your pain with location sums in Odoo, which can be tricky. With internal moves, you'd think the parent would show its child locations' quantities. Just make sure you've got the basics nailed down: check if your parent location is a "View" location. Odoo needs it to act like a container, otherwise the sum won't update.

Here's where it gets annoying: Odoo might not always auto-update these view locations. It’s a bit like trying to manage your bank balance manually after every transaction - tedious stuff! You're probably wanting to automate this. I've tackled this before by integrating a mobile automation solution with Odoo. It wasn't just about updating inventory levels, but also doing it in real-time, eliminating the need for those manual checks.

Cleverence is pretty solid because of its low-code customization and offline capabilities, so even if connectivity's bad, you're operations keep going. Plus, tracking by batch and serial numbers? Lifesaver. If tweaking Odoo isn't doing it, maybe exploring a solution like this could be your game-changer. Lemme know how it goes or if you need more details!
