The Egyptian Company for Mineral Resources was established in May 2003 with the aim of exploring, exploiting, producing, and marketing minerals within the Arab Republic of Egypt, both domestically and internationally, to contribute to the economic development. It serves as one of the pillars of the mining sector and is the economic arm of the Egyptian General Authority for Mineral Wealth. The company also holds a 7% stake in Shalatin Mineral Resources Company and a 2% stake in the Egyptian Black Sands Company.
