Most of my manufacturing operations are done using a 3-step manufacturing process:

  1. Pick (SDWH/Stock -> SDWH/Pre-Production)
  2. Manufacture
  3. Store (SDWH/Post-Production -> SDWH/Stock)

There is one item, Product X, which only follows a 2-step process:

  1. Manufacture 
  2. Store (SDWH/Post-Production -> SDWH/Stock)

I have tried setting up a custom route for Product X, but I still end up with a "Pick" operation type created.


Is it possible to set this up in Odoo?


Note: I will be manually creating the manufacturing orders, but the configurations can also be used with the Replenishment menu.  See the additional questions asked on this post.

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Inventory > Configuration > Operation Types and create a new operation type:

    1. Name: Manufacturing Product X
    2. Type: Manufacturing
    3. Source Location: SDWH/Stock
    4. Destination Location: SDWH/Post-Production
  3. Once the new operation type has been created, open Product X's BOM and in the Miscellaneous Tab, set the Operation to "Manufacturing Product X"
  4. Make sure all other BOMS (of those products that do use 3-step manufacturing) have the Operation set to "Manufacturing" (standard operation type)
  5. Go to Inventory > Configuration > Routes.
  6. Open the "Manufacture" route and create a new rule:
    1. Name: SDWH: Post-Production (Production) Product X
    2. Action: Manufacture
    3. Operation Type: Manufacturing Product X
    4. Source Location: SDWH/Stock
    5. Destination Location: SDWH/Post-Production
  8. Save the new rule.


Results:

For Product X:

For Product Y (any product with 3-step manufacturing):

Is there any way to apply at a product category level rather than at individual products?

Hi Dipali,

Once the MO for the two-step product is created, make sure to manually select the BOM. This will do the following:
1) Change the operation type on the MO from "Manufacturing" to "2 Step MO".
2) Trigger the creation of the transfer from Post-Production to Stock.

The reason this is not automatically done by Odoo is that the first rule set on the Manufacture route uses the operation type "Manufacturing". Therefore, when the route is triggered, it uses this rule and this operation type to create the manufacturing order. Since the BOM uses a different operation type, it is not pulled into the MO and does not trigger the transfer needed for the 2-stpe manufacturing process.

Hello let me know how we can handle quality process after enabling 3 steps routing.

For example 

3 Location

Input, Quality Control, and Stock

After forward material how we can run the quality control?

if any damaged material how i can return? how we can track in PO? How I can create the back order???

Hi Midhun,

You can set control points on any of the transfers and use the "Return" button on the transfers to return items back to the vendor:
*Return from Quality Control to Input.
*Return from Input to Partner Locations/Vendor.
