Hello. We manufacture custom steel wheels. The production process includes 8 operations. The question is whether it is possible to take into account the quantity rather than the time of the task when ordering. For example, there is a wheel and 8 meters of welding seam are needed for its production. When creating an order, the order for the welding station displays 1 wheel, but it is necessary that there be 8 meters of welding seam.

Hi,

In Odoo, by default, work orders are scheduled based on the number of finished units and time per unit, so if you produce one wheel, the welding station sees one unit of work. Since in your case the real workload is measured in meters of welding seam, you can adjust the BoM operation settings to reflect this. Instead of defining the welding operation as one cycle per wheel, you set it as one cycle per meter and specify that each wheel requires eight cycles. Then you enter the cycle time as the welding time per meter. As a result, when you create an MO for five wheels, Odoo will automatically calculate forty cycles, which represent forty meters of seam, and allocate the correct total time. This way, the system still uses Odoo’s standard scheduling logic but the workload is driven by seam length rather than wheel count, giving you accurate task sizing without heavy customization.

Hope it helps
